Founded in 1898, the Hamburg Polo Club is the oldest polo club in continental Europe. With the founding of the German Polo Association in 1972 the professionalisation of the sport has also taken its course.
Since 1972, annual German Championships have been played in the Low, Medium and High Goal classes as well as the German Youth Championship. Membership numbers and the number of tournaments held throughout Germany have been rising steadily ever since. Special highlights are the teams' participation in the European Championships. In addition to classic grass polo, beach and arena polo are also attracting more and more enthusiastic supporters - both among the players and the polo fans.
